    Schindler's List

I just watched Schindler's List. Yes, I know it came out in 1993 and has received so many awards. But I was scared to watch it. The Holocaust is a touchy subject with me because it is such a terrible thing to have happened.

I have to say that this was such an amazing movie, but in the sense that it portrayed the Holocaust vividly and truthfully. It was hard to watch, but I feel that it has opened my eyes even more to the history and lives of the people who survived and expired during the Holocaust.

    Wow.

  • Just a little something

Well, goodness, I have to say life has been pretty uneventful for me! Grrrrrr, I am kind of frustrated with myself because I haven't been doing anything.... literally. Well, I mean I go to my work and some of my classes. I try to study but then I distract myself. I need some motivation.

The warm, beautiful weather in Colorado was short lived and it is looking nasty outside. Weather.com said that it is supposed to snow tonight.... oh joy.... My coat hasn't come in the mail yet. I had a good winter coat before winter break (which I had stolen from my mom.... ;)) but I accidentally left it at home.... then the coat that my dad got me from Khol's started falling apart.... so I ordered a good coat online from a store based out of Colorado and they know their coats!

But, yeah, I don't know what my deal is. I don't know. I need to get my act together!

  • Man ALIVE!!

    Holy Sh-nikes!

This has been such a busy week!! I had a test in my Intro to Prehistory, a paper due for that same class, a test in International Relations, homework for my anthropology lab due and I'm pretty sure I'll be having a quiz in my Bug's class!

Oh, and then tomorrow I will be getting my car registered in CO!! That is exciting!

I did SO MANY dishes today!!! We had 2 overflowing sink-fulls! It never fails....I always end up doing dishes. Granted that a lot of them are usually mine, but this time I think we were pretty even. Oh well, I actually kind of enjoy doing dishes, it's a good time for me to think about life.

My room is a mess...again... The funny thing is, is that I complain like someone else made my room a disaster....when I know exactly who did it! ME!

Ok, well, I'm getting off of here and I'm going to clean my room and get some studying done!!

    Mary- hope you're doing well!!!

  • My Trip to the Colorado DMV

Ok, so I'm pretty sure that you (Mary) are the only one who is reading this at this moment. I didn't get to tell my story earlier:

My Trip to the Colorado DMV:

Ok, so if I want in-state tuition next spring I must become a full out Colorado resident. One of the criteria is to obtain a driver's license.

I get to the DMV and go inside where I am promptly handed a number (B463). I take my seat among the chaos... this DMV is much much bigger than the one in Leavenworth. I wait for a little while and watch this kid run back and forth from one end of the room to the other.

Finally, they call my number and I go to the desk, where I am greeted by an overly excited to be at work today, "Hi! What can we do for you today?!"

"Well, I would like to exchange my Kansas driver's license for a Colorado one!" I said.

She replies, "Well, we can certainly do that for you! You'll just need to surrender your Kansas driver's license, but you can still use it as just an ID and your Colorado driver's license will be in the mail! If you could give me your driver's license?"

"Very cool!" I reply as I fish my license from my bottomless pit of a purse.

I pull out my driver's license and pass it across the counter. She takes the license and begins to type in my information.

Suddenly, she burst into a loud, so everyone in the room can hear her, laugh!!

At this point, I haven't said anything and I'm pretty sure her computer is not telling a joke, so I ask, "What?"

She loudly replies through her giggles, "Your last name is Dykes!"

My response was, "Yeah, it is."

I wasn't quite sure how to respond to that statement...because I know that everyone thinks it when I tell them, but no one had ever said anything about it, they just kept it inside.

  • I am allowing myself to post again because I actually got a lot accomplished today...well not as far as homework, but now I can breath a little bit better because I am registered to vote in Colorado, my Colorado DL is on its way and my taxes are filed.

Once my taxes get deposited (oh, by the way: www.TaxACT.com is the easiest way to file your taxes, I've been using them on my own for 4 years now!)

Oh shoot! I gotta run to work!!! Later!

About Me

  • I am very ambitious! I went to William Jewell College (Liberty, MO) for 2 years and then took a year off. Now, I'm here at Colorado State University (Fort Collins, CO) and I'm studying cultural anthropology and international relations. Hopefully, I will graduate sometime before I die!! My main goals in life are to create an atmosphere of safe and open-minded communication between the people (*not the government) of the U.S. and people from the Middle East. (Yes, I know the Middle East covers a lot of people, and I know that there are different cultures for each of those countries, but that is my point! The people of the U.S. just clump them all together.
